Career Development

KATHY BERNSTEIN Mrs. Bernstein

My name is Kathy Bernstein and I am the new Career Development Coordinator (CDC) for Broad Creek Middle School, Morehead City Middle School, and Newport Middle School. I graduated from Radford University with an undergraduate degree in Communications. After graduation I worked in college admissions and academic advising for nine years.  I realized how much I loved working with students and their families.  I decided to pursue a school counseling degree. I graduated from East Carolina University with a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I have worked as a high school counselor for the past fourteen years. When the middle school CDC position became available, I jumped at this opportunity.  I am looking forward to taking everything I have learned over the past twenty-three years and sharing this information with our middle school students.  I hope to help students learn more about career opportunities for their future and help map out a path to success.

WHAT IS CAREER DEVELOPMENT?

Career development is a process that involves students, parents, teachers, counselors, and the community.  The goal of a Career Development Coordinator is to help students make good decisions about themselves and their future.  As the Career Development Coordinator, I am available to assist students with all aspects of college and career planning as well as community activities. I can assist students to identify career interests to explore.  I work closely with the members of the staff and the local business community to provide work-based learning opportunities to students and to assist with the school-to-work transition. I am here to assist students, parents, teachers, and employers. Please let me know how I can help you!

Access information on this page for career interest and learning styles surveys, youth employment certificates, job applications, resumes & interviews, and career planning.

STUDENTS... there are many Career and Technical opportunities available to you at the Middle School!  Check out the Career and Technical Student Organizations: TSA, FBLA, Robotics and STEM.  These clubs support the CTE courses and allow students to become leaders and be involved in community awareness, as well as expose students to state and regional competitions/workshops that can lead to scholarship opportunities!
