MCMS is proud to announce the regional winners of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality AQ-IQ competition. This is a state competition that not only requires research, analysis, and synthesis, but also demands creativity, dedication, and determination. The competition is aligned with the seventh grade science standards. The regional winners’ projects will now go to the state level to compete with the other regional winners from North Carolina Middle schools. State winners will be announced in July.

From left to right, the pictured winners are Jack Tucker, Ella Pagano, Drew Grangier, Hannah McNutt, Cooper Anderson, Georgin Bristo, Ethan Parrish, and Levi Toledo. Winners not pictured are Cameon Payne, Makena Lynk, and Brinkley Gavalis.

Our 6th-grade students had an absolutely out-of-this-world experience today!

Inside the Starlab digital dome, staff from Sturgeon City Environmental Education Center led students took through a special 25-minute lesson called "Back to the Moon for Good." They took a trip down memory lane to explore exactly what it took to land the first humans on the lunar surface, and they even got a sneak peek into the exciting space programs working to put humanity back on the moon in the near future! 🌕👨‍🚀🚀

Thanks to Mrs. Robison for planning such an engaging, immersive opportunity for our students!

Help us restock our shelves! We have 243 books currently out in the wild, and we need them back in their home!

All library books are due tomorrow. To avoid 'lost book' fines, please ensure all items are turned in on time. Students can easily double-check their titles and any pending fines on Classlink via their Destiny account.

Thank you for helping us keep our library well-stocked and ready for the next round of readers!

Check out the incredible work from our Project Lead The Way students! 🚗💨

As the school year wraps up, our students are still firing on all cylinders. In this project, they’ve engineered a fully automated toll booth—from the ground up!

Using a VEX V5 system and some clever coding, they’ve programmed:

Line Follower Sensors to detect the car’s approach.

Automated Gate Mechanics that open and close seamlessly.

LED Indicator Lights (Green for "Go!", Red for "Stop!") to guide traffic.

A "Forever Loop" to ensure the system runs smoothly for every car in line.

It’s inspiring to see these young engineers applying logic and hands-on skills to solve real-world problems. Great job, Benjamin and Arabella! 👏🔧

We had an incredible visit from author Scott Reintgen at our school! He shared so honestly about the writing process, especially the challenges, setbacks, and failures that are part of the journey, and reminded our students not to give up on their goals.

Scott also talked about taking a leap of faith, leaving his dream job of teaching to pursue his dream of writing. His story was both inspiring and motivating for our students and staff alike.

Thank you, Scott, for your time, your honesty, and for encouraging our students to keep pushing forward.

It was also a pleasure to experience this with 8th graders from Beaufort Middle School!
